Also, the Mockingjay is not only a thing between Katniss and Madge, unfortunately. It has super significance with Rue, who reminded her of Prim and thus became like a little sister to her.
Maybe Mockingjays will become useful for the resistance when they ultimately rise against the Capitol? But it must have some emotional significance as well, because you can’t name the 3rd book...
